The Forgotten Craftsman
He represents the lineage, the PAFA training, and the obsession with technique that the modern world has discarded. He is the ghost in the machine.
Jesse C. Harrington is a classically trained sculptor and engraver working at the intersection of fine art and functional object. A second-generation woodworker, his practice is rooted in lineage, formal training, and an enduring commitment to technique.
Working from his barn studio in Birchrunville, Pennsylvania, Harrington produces one-of-a-kind works across metal and wood, including engraved jewelry, sculpted knives, gold inlay on firearms, and sculptural objects. Each piece begins with an understanding of form—how mass holds tension, how light moves across a surface, and how a line, once cut, cannot be undone.
His education began early, learning the discipline of tools in his father’s woodshop before formal training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he studied classical sculpture and draftsmanship. That foundation now informs his approach to hand engraving, a medium he treats not as surface decoration, but as sculpture under pressure.
The work is deliberate, restrained, and physical.
Craft not as nostalgia—but as authorship.
